Call for participation: Summer school for the “Young experts in integrated waste management sector”

The Summer School for "Young Experts in the Integrated Waste Management Sector" offers the
opportunity for at least 30 students from the Universities of six Western Balkan countries (Kosovo, Albania,
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia) to learn and exchange in the field of
integrated waste management sector as well as share experiences in other academic areas of collaboration
such as joint conferences or symposiums or student exchange programs.

The summer school will provide theoretical and practical knowledges on the following thematic:
• introduction to circular economy
• introduction to EU policy and SDG-se
• energy and climate change
• circular design strategy

The selected students will have the opportunity to engage in various activities throughout a period of 5 days,
including lectures in the above listed topics, discussions and group work, enabling knowledge sharing in the
integrated waste management sector, including the opportunity to establish a network of young
professionals. This will be aimed at creating potential for sustainable development of institutional capacities
for the future by establishing an academy for environment and circular economy.
The program will be developed according to the following structure and will be completed with academic
works in the form of presentation:
• theoritical part (lectures, group work, and discussions) in Durrës - 3 days
• study visit (at the waste landfill) in Tirana - 1 day
• presentations and certification - 1 day

Who can apply?
Selection of participating students will be made through a set of criteria outlined below:
Faculties (from Public Universities)
Civil engineering, Environmental Engineering
Agriculture and Economy
At least 2nd year of studies
Fluent in English

How to apply?
Interested students should send a copy of the respective University ID, a copy of the ID, a copy of the
respective program grades and a motivation letter to the email jetlir.dermaku@giz.de, with the
following title: "GIZ Summer School 2023" until latest September 26th 2023. The materials should
not exceed the size of 10MB

Pravo na grad i održivi razvoj

Urbane sredine diljem svijeta suočavaju se s izazovima rasta i razvoja koji postavljaju pitanja o pristupu resursima, pravdi i održivosti. Ovaj rad istražuje ključne koncepte koji se tiču pitanja  prava na grad, pravde za prostor i društvenih nejednakosti i njihove povezanosti s ciljevima održivog razvoja.

U današnjem urbanom kontekstu, brzi procesi urbanizacije i transformacije gradova stvaraju potrebu za kritičkim razmatranjem načina oblikovanja i upravljanja urbanim prostorima. Pravo na grad, kao koncept koji naglašava pravo građana na sudjelovanje u oblikovanju svojih gradova, postaje ključno u osiguravanju inkluzivnog i održivog urbanog razvoja. Pravda za prostor, s druge strane, bavi se raspodjelom resursa i pristupom urbanom prostoru kako bi se osigurala pravedna i jednaka prilika za sve građane.

Ovaj rad će analizirati kako ovi koncepti utječu na održivi razvoj gradova, kako su povezani s Ciljevima održivog razvoja (Sustainable Development Goals SDG) UN-a  i kako doprinose stvaranju inkluzivnih, pravednih i održivih urbanih sredina. Kroz analizu ovih tema, ovaj rad će istražiti kako se može postići bolji urban razvoj koji promiče dobrobit svih građana, bez izuzetka.

Second issue of the GETA Project Bulletin

We present to you the second issue of the GETA Project Bulletin.

The GETA project seeks to support the energy transition in these areas in the Western Balkans through practical methods and education of young people from rural areas, who are sensitive to energy poverty in their households.

The GETA project is co-financed by the European Union and is implemented by a partner consortium consisting of: Life Foundation (Sweden), University Polytechnic of Marche (Italy), Environmental and Territorial Management Institute ETMI (Albania), Regional Education and Information Center for Sustainable Development in SEE REIC (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Municipality of Kavaje (Albania).

REIC presented Project GETA

On August 15th 2023, Regional Education and Information Centre - REIC had an opportunity to present the #projectGETA to the participants of the 18th Summer School, organized in Ethno Village Cardaci in Bosnia and Herzegovina, creating the great interest among the participants.

The School on 'Advanced Planning of Affordable, Secure, and Sustainable Energy' gathered 18 young participants from Germany, Moldova, Turkey, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The youth is invited to follow the project activities and potentially to join in the future events.

„18th International Summer School“ Empowers Sustainable Energy Transition

The 18th International Summer School on "Advanced Planning of Affordable, Secure, and Sustainable Energy" is set to take place from August 10th to August 19th, 2023, at the picturesque Ethno village "Čardaci" in Vitez, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This transformative event is organized with the generous support of the European Climate Foundation (ECF) and the EU4 Energy Transition: Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Türkiye project, co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. In the Western Balkans, the project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as part of the Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe: Energy, Transport, and Climate Protection.

The 10-day program will encompass the environment, socioeconomic, legal and technological issues that need to be considered toward the transition to renewable energy and future green growth. Interactive lectures will focus on the topics that are currently of most importance globally and especially to the Southeast Europe. The insights, knowledge and practical experiences of our esteemed international lecturers will undoubtedly enrich and expand the participants' understanding of advanced energy planning. Some of the lecturers are recognized international experts in the mentioned fields, namely: Sanela Klarić, Rozeta Karova, Aleksandar Mastilović, Goran Čačić, Ognjen Marković, Vedad Suljić and many others.

20 young participants of the Summer School from BiH, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Moldova, Albania, Germany, Turkey and Kosovo will have a unique opportunity to socialize with leading thinkers, to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions to promote accessible, safe and sustainable energy practices. The Summer School is designed to empower a new generation of energy leaders, equipped to drive positive change and shape the future of energy landscapes. The knowledge and insights gained during the Summer School will be invaluable in the pursuit of a greener and more resilient future for the Southeast Europe region and beyond.


Projekat Održivost planinarskog doma “Prijatelj prirode”

Projekat provodi Regionalni centar za obrazovanje i informisanje iz održivog razvoja za Jugoistočnu Evropu - REIC a podržan je od strane fondacije Heinrich Böll.

Tokom svog postojanja, planinarski dom Prijatelj prirode uvijek je težio neovisnosti i društvenoj odgovornosti prema prirodi. Do sada je uspješno realizirano nekoliko projekata koji su bili od ključnog značaja za postizanje neovisnosti. Na primjer, osigurali su kontinuiranu opskrbu pitkom vodom i primjeren tretman otpadnih voda kako bi sačuvali prirodno okruženje.

Sljedeći korak u nastojanjima ka još većoj održivosti doma je izgradnja fotonaponske elektrane. Cilj je postići energetsku neovisnost te osigurati da objekt dobiva električnu energiju iz obnovljivih izvora. Time će dodatno smanjiti utjecaj na okoliš i postati još odgovorniji prema prirodi.

Udruženje je godinama skupljalo novac za izgradu fotonaposnke elektrane, no budući da nisu profitna organizacija do sada su uspjeli sakupiti svega 5.000 KM. S tim u vezi su se priključili projektu pod nazivom Održivost planinarskog doma “Prijatelj prirode” koji provodi nevladina organizacija Regionalni centar za obrazovanje i informisanje iz održivog razvoja za Jugoistočnu Evropu -REIC, a koji se podržan od strane fondacije Heinrich Böll, kroz koji se provodi kampanja koja ima za cilj da prodajom vaučera sakupi ostatak novca za izgradnju fotonaponske elektrane.

U nastavku slijedi video kampanje:

Cilj je prikupiti 25.000 KM kroz kampanju, a kako bi to postigli, predstavnici doma osmislili su sljedeći plan:

Kreirali su vaučere čijom kupovinom možete doprinijeti finansiranju izgradnje fotonaponske elektrane. Ponuda uključuje sljedeće vaučere:

Vaučer vrijedan 50 KM, koji uključuje 2 noćenja u Domu za 1 osobu.

Vaučer vrijedan 100 KM, koji omogućuje 1 noćenje za grupu od 5 osoba.

Vaučer vrijedan 200 KM, koji omogućuje 1 noćenje za grupu od 10 osoba.

Kupovinom ovih vaučera, ne samo da ćete dobiti priliku za ugodan boravak u Domu, već ćete istovremeno pomoći u ostvarivanju cilja postizanja energetske neovisnosti putem fotonaponske elektrane.

Vaučere možete kupiti na dva načina:

  1. Putem mobilnog bankarstva ili uplatom u banci: LINK
